About

Who We Are

The Network of Youth for Climate Action Africa (NYCA Africa) is a youth climate network across Africa, providing an avenue for every youth-led organization, individual, and the general public to bring their opinions for sustainable rural, regional & national climate-related actions and decision-making processes.

The Network of Youth for Climate Action Africa (NYCA Africa) aspires to be a hub to assist young people in climate action via consultation in bringing diverse youth perspectives into policy formulation and concrete action while also enhancing movement solidarity for shared resources and expertise. There is a need for culturally sensitive climate advocacy that yields results and impact.

Across Africa, communities face direct effects of climate change. Youth climate activists, advocates, and organizations in rural communities will benefit significantly from movement solidarity where there are shared resources to support their resilience and equal representation of their aspirations and inputs in policy dialogues and lead community owned initiatives. The Network of Youth for Climate Action Africa envision to bring youth groups and individuals together to create an institutional mechanism for a unified and collaborative movement building that delivers high positive impact. Activism by young people across Africa is polarized and yields very minimal impact on Africa’s policy at UNFCCC technical dialogues among other United Nations Conventions because of structural inequalities – such as lack of capacity, technical and funding for mobilization. Often, only city-based youth organizations and individuals get the chance to contribute to national policies.

However, the experiences of rural and hard-to-reach institutions are equally important. Every youth activist and youth led organization deserves a voice in climate policy, but government institutions can’t engage with every single one of them. The current gap between youth climate voices and the corresponding governmental structures at the national, regional and local levels requires working responsively to maximize the opportunity for both parties.
